El Cortez Casino History:
Located at 600 East Fremont Street in Las Vegas, NV, The El Cortez has been in operation for 80 years. It opened on November 7, 1941 and is one of the oldest casino-hotel properties in Las Vegas. The theme is Spanish Colonial Revival. In 1945, the notorious Bugsy Siegel, Meyer Lansky, Gus Greenbaum and Moe Sedway bought the property. In 1946, they sold it back to one of the original owner J. Kell Houssels. In 1963, Jackie Gaughan purchased the property. Gaughan lived in the El Cortez's tower penthouse and was known to be on the casino floor daily. In 2008, Gaughan sold the property to Kenny Epstein, a longtime friend and business partner.
