    Golden Gate History:
Located at 1 Fremont Street, the Golden Gate remains open today.  It is the oldest hotel in Las Vegas.  After the the big auction of 1905, John F. Miller
established the Miller Hotel at the site he purchased for ,750 on the southwest corner of Fremont Street and Main Street. It was a temporary tent hotel that was also known as the Hotel Nevada.  On January 13, 1906, the two story Hotel Nevada opened becoming the first hotel structure in Las Vegas.  The cost was per day.  In 1907, the first telephone in Las Vegas was installed at the Hotel Nevada.
Gambling was banned in Nevada from 1909-1931, forcing the casino at the hotel to put all of their blackjack and poker tables into storage.  When gambling was legalized again in 1931, the property was expanded to 4 stories and renamed the Sal Sagev (Las Vegas spelled backwards).
In 1955, Abe Miller (son of John F. Miller), the property's longtime operator, leased the ground floor of the Sal Sagev to a group of 23 men, which then sublet the floor to a group of 8 men mostly from Oakland, California.  Those 8 men renovated the first floor of the Sal Sagev and opened the Golden Gate casino in 1955.  One of the eight men, Italo Ghelfi, operated the casino for nearly 40 years.
In 1974, the entire property was renamed the Golden Gate Hotel and Casino.
The Ghelfi family had full ownership of  the property by 1990.  In the early 2000's Mark Brandenburg, son of Italo Ghelfi, owned the property.  In 2008, he sold 50% interest to Desert Rock Enterprises, Derek and Greg Stevens... owners of the "D" Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Club.
The first major renovation in more than 50 years occurred in 2012.
By 2016, Derek and Greg Stevens became full owners of the Golden Gate.   In 2017, The Golden Gate went under an expansion doubling the size of the casino by occupying the space formerly know at the La Bayou casino. Currently, the hotel has 122 rooms and 12,243 sq. ft of gaming space.
    Fun Fact:
The Golden Gate was the first to serve $.50
    shrimp cocktails in 1959.
    Fun Fact #2:
The Miller Hotel was the first lodging
    establishment
to receive plumbing in Las Vegas.
