Pictures are of my personal keeper, the rest remain in unopened boxes. It has been decades now, so expect the boxes to have some wear and tear from occasional handling.
These Big Reds were made in homage of an even older vintage pen, the red Parker Duofolds of the 1920s, which earned the nickname
'Big Red'
. These later Big Reds were designed for a different purpose than their Duofold predecessors, in that they were a fiber tip + ballpoint design meant to appeal to an evolving customer. They were far more mass produced in Parker's effort to increase global sales, but you won't find many of them in new condition now days, as they were discontinued. These pens were very popular in their time, resulting in multiple color variants, such as this
Mandarin Yellow
variant.
So buy yourself a little bit of Parker Pen history!
This is not a modern junker, the plastic is durable, and the cap screws on smoothly and snugly.
It's very satisfying, in my opinion.
The clip and finial are sturdy
, and should last you a lifetime as long as you don't use it to tee off at the driving range.
While the original intent was fiber tip + ballpoint, your roller ball refills will fit, albeit with a little play. I would buy it as a
ballpoint first
, using the adapters as seen in the pictures.
You will receive the original G2 'Parker Style' refill, but it is likely dry after a few decades. Coax it if you can, otherwise you will need to replace it. There are lots of good sources for refills, including ebay and Amazon.
